A. Realism- I believe that realistic art is a representation of something real. It doesn’t necessarily have to be exact but if it looks real on paper or another form I would classify it as a realistic image. When a drawing, painting or whatever the art may be is detailed, and the lines show great value is when something looks a lot more realistic.
B. Plato defined good art as actuality. A good work of art must engage someone emotionally, and a person should be able to identify art and know that it is beautiful.
C. I think that Plato would see Koons art as beauty because of the realism. i feel that because of the explicit nature of the work he would hate it. Koon likes to portray the human body and he likes to make recognizable pieces of art.
D. Aristotle would define good art as size, order, proportion, harmony, symmetry and even functionality. He also believed that art is perceived as it is intended. If it was supposed to be a beautiful piece most people see the beauty that the artist put in the work.
E. I believe that obscene is not a contradiction of terms because there are some people and even instances that someone would feel that a work of art is repulsive to them.
F. I think that sexual images are just as obscene as a person makes them. Each person is raised differently. Some people may be offended by many things while others are more open minded and see the beauty in a piece of work rather than just the content. Of course the content is a very important part of the work but I feel that the focal point is more important. To look past the importance of the message or the concept that the artist is trying to get across is a problem, I fell that it is important to at least try to understand what the art is saying before judgment is passed.
G. I really didn’t find anyone on the drawing center that I liked for this project but I did like Michael Ray Charles, an artist Amy told me about. In this project I wanted to use the identity and humor terms.This artist likes to create black super heroes and my project revolved around trying to portray myself as a black superhero by abstracting my features more to pull out my African American side of my genetic pool.
